Melkia Auchecorne (FRA) made it back-to-back Junior World titles in the women’s 63 kg competition to go along with her bronze medal from the 2022 event. She defeated Paris 2024 Olympian Savita Russo (ITA) in the final to clinch her third Junior World medal. Karlee Carrouth (Oklahoma City, Okla. / NYAC / USA Stars Foundation) earned a bye into the round of 32 at her third Junior Worlds where she fought No. 4 seed and seven-time European Cup gold medalist Sara Corbo (ITA). After receiving two shidos (penalties) in the first two minutes, Carrouth cleaned up her approach and took the Italian into the final minute before the fight went to the ground and Corbo was able to secure the pin against Carrouth for an ippon (instant win) with 31 seconds remaining. Corbo would go on to place fifth in the competition. Bronze medals in the women’s 63 kg division went to So Morichika (JPN) and Anna Skalska (CZE).

Fighting at his first Junior World Championships, Steven Boldbaatar (Bellevue, Wash. / Washington Judo Academy) faced 2024 Malaga Junior European Cup silver medalist Yusuke Takeichi (JPN) in the men’s 73 kg round of 64. The Japanese athlete took the match to the mat in the first 30 seconds and was able to pin Boldbaatar 46 seconds into the contest. Takeichi would go on to claim the silver medal, losing to teammate Keito Kihara (JPN) who added a Junior World title to the Cadet World title he won in 2022. Bronze medalists were Mardon Ravshanov (UZB) and Muhiddin Asadulloev (TJK).

Two-time Junior World Team member Jasmine Macias (La Puente, Calif. / Guerreros Judo Club) drew 2024 Podgorica Senior European Cup silver medalist Kristina Nisavic (SRB) in her opening round of 64 match in the women’s 57 kg division. Nisavic was able to throw Macias for a waza-ari (half-point) 1:49 into the match and that proved to be the decisive move as the contest went the full four minutes with the Serbian securing the victory. 2023 silver medalist Riko Honda (JPN) upgraded to gold this year, defeating Tao Yuying (CHN) in the women’s 57 kg final. Junior World No. 1 Bianca Reis (BRA) captured a bronze medal along with Karolina Siennicka (POL).

The third day of competition on Friday will feature three-time Junior World Team member Dominic Rodriguez (Lehigh Acres, Fla. / NYAC / Ki-Itsu-Sai National Training Center) competing in the men’s 81 kg division.
