Twenty Athletes Announced for Cadet Worlds in Lima

(Colorado Springs, CO) – USA Judo has named 20 athletes, ages 17 and under, who will compete at the Cadet World Championships in Lima, Peru, August 28-31. More than 400 judoka from 51 nations will compete in the event.

2024 Cadet World Championships Live Stream and Results

Team USA returns seven athletes from the 2023 Cadet World Championship Team, including two top-five seeds in their divisions – Anthony Farnot (Lehigh Acres, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai National Training Center) seeded No. 2 in the men’s 73kg division and Jayda Fulp (Fort Worth, Texas / Chandler Judo Academy) seeded No. 5 in the women’s 63kg division.

A look at the U.S. roster:

Men’s 50 kg
Fourteen-year-old Dmitry Kondratev (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Darfight) will make his debut at a major international event in Lima. He won gold at the Junior Olympic National Championships in Pittsburgh in June.

Women’s 44 kg
Another 14-year-old, Linda Dervisoglu (Dallas, Texas / Eastside Dojo), also will be fighting at her first major international event at the Cadet World Championships. Dervisoglu placed first at this year’s Junior Olympics and second at this year’s Youth Nationals.

Men’s 55 kg
Returning from the 2023 Cadet World Team is Henry Parsadanian (North Hollywood, Calif. / Hayastan MMA Academy). In April, Parsadanian fought at his first Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships in Rio de Janeiro and won a bronze medal. He is currently ranked 32nd in the world for the 55kg cadet division.

Women’s 48 kg
Zoe Dempsey (New Lenox, Ill. / Cohen Brothers Judo Club) is fresh off a double-bronze-medal performance at the Macau Asian Cup in early August, winning medals in both the 48kg cadet and junior divisions. The 16-year-old will be making her Cadet World Championship debut in Lima.

Men’s 60 kg
Jonathan Yang (Los Angeles, Calif. / U.S. Performance Center) returns to his second Cadet World Championships as the 9th-ranked fighter in the men’s 60kg division. Following a 7th-place finish in Zagreb last year, Yang has gone on to win gold at the 2024 Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships and bronze at the 2024 Junior Pan-Am Oceania Championships. Yang has been dominant on the domestic stage as well, winning 2024 cadet and junior national titles while adding a bronze at the 2024 Senior Nationals.

Women’s 52 kg
The U.S. team will enter two fighters in the women’s 52kg division in 15-year-old Aubrey Genereux (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai National Training Center) and 16-year-old Ellianna Abbott (Rayne, La. / Louisiana Judo). Genereux is ranked 20th in the world in the women’s 52kg division after winning a silver medal at the 2024 Varadero Cadet Pan-American Cup and a bronze medal at the 2024 Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships. She is also a gold medalist in the cadet division at the 2024 Youth Nationals and 2024 Junior Olympics. Abbott won the silver medal in the cadet competition at the 2024 Junior Olympics.

Men’s 66 kg
The two U.S. entries in the men’s 66kg class are 17-year-old Alexander Prado (Coral Springs, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai National Training Center) and 15-year-old Daniel Gonzalez (Schaumburg, Ill. / European Judo Academy). Prado is ranked 13th in the world rankings and is a returning member of the Cadet World Team. He earned a bronze medal at the 2024 Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships in April. Gonzalez claimed a bronze medal at the 2024 Junior Olympics.

Women’s 57 kg
Fifteen-year-old Lily Oh (Ashburn, Va. / Sport Judo) will make her Cadet Worlds debut in Lima after winning the Junior Olympics National Championships in June with a 5-1 record, four of the victories coming via ippon.

Men’s 73 kg
Anthony Farnot (Lehigh Acres, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai National Training Center) enters his third Cadet World Championship event ranked No. 2 in the world with six Cadet Pan American titles in the last three years as well as both the 2023 and 2024 Junior Olympic titles. Heinrich Hanada (Bethesda, Md. / Sport Judo) is ranked 16th in the world following a gold medal at the Macau Cadet Asian Cup and a silver medal at the 2024 Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships.

Women’s 63 kg
Seventeen-year-old Jayda Fulp (Fort Worth, Texas / Chandler Judo Academy) will compete in her third Cadet World Championships and comes in ranked No. 11 in the world. A gold medalist at the Junior Olympics, Fulp won gold at the 2024 Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships as well as the recent Santo Domingo Cadet Panamerican Cup. Sika Hounfodji (Houston, Texas / Westlake Judo Club), 16, will make her first appearance at the Cadet Worlds in Lima.

Men’s 81 kg
Daniel Shulgin (Philadelphia, PA / Yawara Force) will participate in his second Cadet World Championships and enters the competition ranked No. 7 in the 81kg division. He was a gold medalist at April’s Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships.

Women’s 70 kg
Sixteen-year-old Chloe Williams (Stafford, Va. / Wall 2 Wall Martial Arts) also returns to her second Cadet Worlds following a four-medal (two gold, two silver) performance at the 2024 Junior Olympics. She will be joined in the women’s 70kg division by 16-year-old Mackenzie Schultz (Daleville, Ala. / Black Ice Judo) who will be making her Cadet Worlds debut after winning bronze medals in both the cadet and junior divisions at the 2024 Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships.

Men’s 90 kg
Sixteen-year-old Christian Corchado (New Britain, Conn. / New Britain Judo and Dynamic Arts) makes his international debut in Lima. Corchado won gold in the cadet division and bronze in the junior division at the 2024 Junior Olympics.

Women’s +70 kg
Juliana Marquez (La Puente, Calif. / Guerreros Judo Club), 17, will also be making her international debut at the Cadet Worlds. Marquez swept the cadet and junior divisions at the 2024 Junior Olympics and captured a bronze medal at this year’s Senior Nationals.

Men’s +90 kg
Kanta Ueyama (Burbank, Calif. / Los Angeles Tenri Judo Dojo) is ranked 9th in the cadet men’s +90kg division. He has won silver medals at the 2023 and 2024 Cadet Pan-Am Oceania Championships as well as a gold medal at the 2024 Varadero Cadet Panamerican Cup.
