A 2024 Pan American bronze medalist, Schultz faced Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Yergali in her opening round of 32 match in the women’s 70kg division. Schultz wasted no time in taking the fight to her opponent, going to the ground and forcing Yergali into submission with an armbar just 44 seconds into the match.

In the next round, Schultz came up against Nadie Jaafar of Bulgaria…a three-time Cadet European Cup champion…and the Bulgarian showed her experience by throwing Schults for ippon (instant win) just 10 seconds into the contest.

Chloe Williams (Stafford, Va. / Wall 2 Wall Martial Arts) also competed in the 70kg division where the 16-year-old was appearing in her second Cadet World Championship. Williams faced off against France’s Lucie Rullier in the round of 32 but failed to advance after being thrown for ippon 2:08 into the match. Rullier went on to win the gold medal.

Another 16-year-old, Christian Corchado (New Britain, Conn. / New Britain Judo and Dynamic Arts), made his international debut in the men’s 90kg competition and drew three-time Cadet European Cup medalist Giorgi Gelashvili of Georgia in his opening round of 32 match. The more-experienced Georgian threw Corchado for ippon at the one-minute mark to take the contest.

Also making her international debut was Juliana Marquez (La Puente, Calif. / Guerreros Judo Club) in the women’s +70kg division. Facing Cadet European Championships bronze medalist Kristyna Kaszperova of Czechia in the round of 32, Kaszperova threw Marquez for a waza-ari and quickly transitioned into a pin to win the match in the first minute. Kaszperova would finish the day with a bronze medal.

Kanta Ueyama (Burbank, Calif. / Los Angeles Tenri Judo Dojo), competing in his first Cadet World Championship, squared off against five-time European Cup medalist Kevin Nzuzi Diasivi of France in the men’s +90kg round of 32. Just under three minutes into the match, Nzuzi Diasivi threw Ueyama for a waza-ari and then controlled the American for the pin and the victory on his way to winning a bronze medal.
